Rep. David Shepard, a Dickson Democrat, withdrew his proposal to sell wine in grocery stores in the House Local Government Subcommittee. Shepard said his decision to abandon the bill reflects a lack of support among lawmakers. Asked his views, Gov. Phil Bredesen said, "I can't imagine what dangers to the fabric of society would exist by having wine in supermarkets. I'm kind of sorry that option is not there."
